03 / PROGRESS BLOCKERS UNOFFICIAL GUIDE
Sewer ladder bug: what may help.
If Aidan falls through the floor after climbing toward the merchant during Get to Safety, stop treating it as a route puzzle. Players report inconsistent workarounds; there is no universal fix established by the threads below.

A SHORT, REVERSIBLE CHECK
Try one change at a time.
Return to the last available save
Close and reopen the game, then load the save before the ladder. Some players passed after a restart or reload; others still fell. Keep existing saves rather than deleting them.
Interact from a little farther away
Approach slowly and activate the ladder from the farthest point where its prompt works. This is a reported workaround, not proof of what causes the bug.
On PC, try low graphics with windowed mode
Three distinct commenters reported passing with this combination. Record your original settings, try the ladder, then restore your preferences. These uncontrolled reports do not establish a reliable success rate.
If it still repeats, stop the loop
Capture the objective, ladder location and what you already tried. Send the details to Saber support. Repeating the same fight indefinitely does not establish a reliable workaround.
Reports are mixed. Keep the failures visible.
| Reported approach | Evidence seen | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Reload / restart | Salem reports passing on a second load; Steve reports passing after a restart combined with a different ladder approach. | Several changes may be involved. Makarian reports repeated failure on PS5 despite restarting. |
| Interact from farther away | KnightCyld and Steve describe passing after changing the approach; kowuka suggests the same but says it may have been luck. | Two named positive reports, plus one uncertain report—not a controlled test. |
| Low graphics + windowed | A Bad Monk, Noidler and Epiphan3 each report success on 8 October. | Three distinct positive reports; no explicit failure of this exact combination in the reviewed replies. This is a small, uncontrolled sample. |
| 60 FPS cap | One clear immediate success (Katostrofic), but six distinct commenters report the bug despite 60 FPS: Mr Blue, Steve, Zeb89, Skirmish, WhitedogAwesome and ploedman. | Mixed evidence. WhitedogAwesome later passed on a third try; repeated attempts complicate attribution. |
| 30 FPS cap alone | Revenholm reports success; KnightCyld reports failure. | One report on each side. Do not describe an FPS cause as settled. |
| PS5 reload / new game | Makarian explicitly reports both repeated reloads and a new game failing on 11 October. | One PS5 experience, not a universal console outcome. No verified Xbox workaround in this review. |
Read the Falling through map thread (external site, opens in a new tab) (8–11 October), progress-blocker thread (external site, opens in a new tab) and ladder animation thread (external site, opens in a new tab). We reviewed 72 replies across these three discussions, including their second pages. Counts deduplicate repeated posters and describe reports, not controlled tests or all affected players. Most PC-setting reports do not identify exact hardware or builds.
PC display-setting workarounds do not apply to PS5. File verification is not counted as a confirmed fix here: a reviewed commenter remained blocked after checking files. A PS5 complaint is evidence of a report, not evidence that every PS5 copy is affected. A commenter named “Saber” is not automatically the developer; the developer-tagged replies ask for support tickets.
Give support the details that matter.
Developer-tagged replies acknowledge the progress blocker and ask for screenshots or video. An official fix for this specific ladder issue has not been verified in our source check. Check the latest official news before retrying an old workaround.
Include: platform, visible game version, difficulty, objective name, the last successful action, whether mods are active, and the result of each attempted workaround.
Describe: whether Aidan falls immediately on stepping off the ladder, whether the merchant dialogue starts, and whether reloading reproduces it.
